Family Involvement

At Ballarat North Primary School, we endeavour to develop strong relationships with our families. We know that strong home-school partnerships have a significant impact on the achievement of our students. There are many opportunities for family engagement and involvement in the school.

In Terms one and three, individual interviews are offered to parents to discuss the needs and progress of their child/ren with their classroom teacher. Teachers provide formal reports on student progress at the end of Terms two and four. Parents can make an appointment with teachers at any time, should the need arise.

A school newsletter is published weekly and is an important part of the communication process. Parents can elect to have the newsletter sent electronically or read it directly from the website.

Families are welcome and encouraged to attend our weekly whole school assemblies held on Friday afternoons at 3:00pm in Penberthy Hall. The assemblies are led by our school captains and include celebrations of achievements, in and out of school, for individuals and groups. Highlights of the week are shared and our students are very eager for the opportunity to speak or perform in front of an audience.

Many community events are held throughout the year, including a welcome picnic for prep families, end of term expos and celebrations, our annual walkathon, Education Week activities, Grandparents Afternoon, as well as our biennial school concert.

There are a range of opportunities available to families who would like to be involved in the school. We have an enthusiastic School Council which is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the school. School Council meets at least twice each term, currently on Monday evenings. Parents are encouraged to help in classrooms and on excursions, as well as with extra curricula activities such as our CLUBS program. There are also many occasions to assist with community and fundraising events.

Ballarat North Primary School acknowledges the Wadawurrung People as the traditional custodians of the land upon which our school sits.
We pay our respects to all Aboriginal people, their culture and their elders: past, present, future and emerging.
